Daily Haymaker Foxx Expose

The Daily Haymaker had a great expose piece on Virginia Foxx today,, you can read the full article here. She was caught telling a few Heritage Action Sentinels, "No, ma'am. You stop saying that. Show me in the Constitution where it says the House controls the purse-strings."

WOW.... did I read that correctly? She said what!?

Remember back in 2013 when we were in her DC office asking her to defund Obamacare and she told us Ted Cruz had brainwashed people. You can read that post here.

The origination clause (Article I, Section 7, Clause 1) states: "All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills."

The Appropriations Clause is the cornerstone of the "power of the purse." Article I, Section 9, Clause 7 states: "No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time."

Madison says in The Federalist No. 58 that this power of the purse is a WEAPON. A Weapon! Our current House of Representatives fails to use the tools and the weapons the Constitution gives them! The Federalist No. 58 is a bit lengthly for inclusion of the full text here on the blog..... but here is the one quote that stands out in my mind:

"This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure."
Here is the article linked above:

We have stuff — audio, video, photos, pdfs, and the like — coming over the transom all the time and dropping into our laps.  One of the latest arrivals is an audio recording of US Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-5th-NC) talking with some voters during The Civitas Institute’s Conservative Leadership Conference in Raleigh at the end of March.
One of our moles was close by when the conversation occurred, and confirmed for us that it is indeed Foxx on the recording.  She’s very pleasant with the voters, until she learns at least two of them — North Carolinians Ginny Quaglia and Mary Ann McCarthy — are affiliated with Heritage Action,  the DC-based Heritage Foundation’s political wing.  Foxx can be heard on the tape saying to the reported Heritage activist:
“You don’t really care if we’re in the majority or the minority.  You’ll raise your money anyway.”
(AS IF she doesn’t run around making political speeches and raising money … )
The group of voters — including the Heritage activist — can be heard on the tape quizzing Foxx about congressman Mark Walker’s “A+ Amendment” to HR 5 (Reauthorization of No Child Left Behind.)
Foxx can once again be heard on the tape training her fire at Quaglia and McCarthy:
“It’s only because of Jim DeMint’s ego that you wanted that A-plus amendment.  There is no sense of accountability there.  Look at A+ and show me where there’s any accountability.”
This all sounds incredibly similar to another caught-on-tape rant a few years ago by congresswoman Renee Ellmers DeMint and his crew are clearly getting under the skin of the GOP establishment in DC.
Foxx can also be heard on the tape bristling at conservative criticism of Speaker John Boehner and his leadership team. (Foxx is a member of the House Republican leadership team, herself.) :
“Don’t impugn Boehner’s conservative credentials.  John Boehner fought Barack Obama and Harry Reid tooth-and-nail for those opportunity scholarships.  He is totally responsible for getting the money and setting them up.”
Foxx can also be heard on the tape challenging a voter’s assertion that House Republicans ought to take a tougher stand on spending:
”No, ma’am.  You stop saying that.  Show me in The Constitution where it says the House controls the purse-strings.”
Foxx must have stopped and thought about that, because she did a little back-pedaling and CYA:
“Yes, revenue bills begin in the House.  Yet, the Senate has to concur and the president has to sign it.”
Foxx can be heard on the tape lecturing the voters about how “incrementalism” is the only way to (there it is) get things done in Washington.  (*Yeah, kind of like how the Democrats behaved in shoving ObamaCare down our throats in 2009.*)
Some of the other profundities oozing out of Ms. Virginia’s mouth included: (1) dismissing town halls as a waste of time (“You can write me a note or call me.”), and (2) suggesting that you need to possess an actual House of Representatives voting card to truly “know what it’s really like” in DC.
It’s pretty clear this woman has become a creature of Washington.  The folks back home are an annoyance.  She’s forgotten where she came from.
Foxx has a primary opponent in May 2016. (Just sayin’.)

Confucius Never Said- An Amazing Journey of Liberty

I met this lady at a media class this week. AMAZING woman who loves liberty. Her story brought tears to my eyes…. and joy to my heart BECAUSE the freedom and opportunity that America affords allowed her to live the American dream. Here is a link to purchase it on Amazon:  Confucius Never Said

“This book is a four-generation family journey from repression and poverty in China to freedom and prosperity in the United States. Their lives overlap with many significant historical events taking place in China, such as the founding of Communist China in 1949, the Great Chinese Famine from 1958-1960, the Cultural Revolution from 1966-1976 and the Economic Reform starting from 1980. The author recounts the enormous suffering her family had to endure under Communist China’s radical social experiment. Her great-grandfather was denounced by the Chinese Communist Party and his neighbors simply because he owned land. He died in poverty, and his dying wish was never granted. Her grandfather loaned his fishing boat to the Communist Party, and ended up losing his independence and becoming a janitor. Her father escaped his village to get educated and thus survived the Great Famine. He became highly educated, but never joined the Communist Party . . . and was sent to a re-education labor camp because of it. The author herself grew up in China and immigrated to the United States as a young adult. She sought freedom and the American Dream, and found both. This book is about freedom—and about what happens when we let people take our freedom away.”

Kernersville News ran an Article on my Candidacy

Our local paper has a limited online presence. They ran an article about my running against Foxx. Kernersville News ran the following article:

A run against Foxx Kernersville woman announces plans to run against Congresswoman Virginia Foxx By Wendy Davis Kernersville resident Pattie Curran announced Tuesday that she will seek the Republican nomination for the state's Fifth Congressional District against Congresswoman Virginia Foxx in 2016 It's a battle Curran say she knows will be uphill, but the stay-at-home mother of three believes the people of the district are desperate for a change in Washington, D.C., even among politicians who are bastions of the conservative right. "We need someone up there who is truly conservative," said Curran on Wednesday. Curran has been a staunch supporter of the GOP since she was 18-years-old and first joined the Republican Party. After high school, she served in the U.S. Army National Guard, but resigned her commission when she became a mother. Over the years, Curran has been a familiar face in local Republican circles. She has been a vocal critic of the politics and policies of Washington, D.C., especially when it comes to the national debt and most notably, the Affordable Care Act. When Curran voiced her concerns to Foxx, calling on her to support cuts n government spending and the defunding of Obamacare, Curran said she didn't receive much of a response. "I've written letters and stopped by her office, but all I've gotten is a two-line later, thanking me for my interest," said Curran. "We need a representative who is a little more engaged than that." Last year, Curran received national attention after writing a piece that was published in the Washington Times that detailed how Obamacare had negatively impacted her family as she and her husband struggled to afford the medical care for two of their children who are chronically ill. She appeared on Fox News, where she said one-size health care does not fit all. It's a position she maintains today. She also believes Republican leaders in Washington don't really understand how devastating Obamacare has been to families like hers- no matter how many times they throw out examples-- for the simple reason that, if they did, Obamacare would have been dealt with a long time ago. "I don't think they understand Obamacare. If they did, they would have stood up and stopped it," said Curran. "One size fits all policies don't work and our leaders need to understand that their actions have consequences in the real world. I don't think they understand that anymore. I think the leadership is out of touch with the real world." Curran's is a grassroots campaign. She first began putting together a team in January and has been encouraged by the excitement she is seeing from her supporters. "This is not about Pattie Curran. This is about 'We the People'. It's 'Team We the People'. "This is about future generations," explained Curran. "It's a
grassroots campaign and people are really excited. We do have an uphill battle, but we also have a good chance of winning. We have a great chance, and I'm humbled by the support." Curran has launched her campaign on several internet platforms, including an official website at www.pattiecurran.com, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. She plans to campaign across the district on issues on issues that range from education, energy, health care and immigration to national defense, religious liberty, life and the second amendment. In Addition to homeschooling her children, Curran is a former social worker and founder and president of Shwachman-Diamond America, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for research and education about the disease suffered by two of her three sons. She graduated from Louisiana State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in religious studies. Curran and her husband, Chris, have been married 22 years. She and her family have lived in North Carolina for 10 years.

Dispatch Ran a Great Article on My Candidacy

I was really impressed with the article that the dispatch ran today! You can read the enter article here. Below are a few quotes from the article: I've gone to D.C. and protested in front of the White House and in front of the U.S. Capitol," she said. "I've always been politically active, and I have been a registered Republican since I was 18. I'm just an average American who wants to have my voice heard, and I feel like I'm representing the people who are just like me that are fed up with the leadership in D.C." "The reason I have decided to run is because I'm tired of my voice and our collective voices not being heard in (Washington) D.C.," she said. "I've decided to go and be the voice of we the people." "We need to stop the spending, and we need to get the government's footprint out of North Carolina's schools," she said. "North Carolina parents and teachers know what's best for North Carolina students. The federal bureaucrats in Washington, D.C., don't." "I think for the citizens of Davidson County and the Fifth District, I hope to be the voice of individual liberty and returning the government of the people, by the people, for the people to we the people," she said. "I want to bring the government back to the states and communities where we know best."

U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx draws challenger - HDR | Hickory Daily Record : News

While Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., announced his candidacy for president, Pattie Curran, of Kernersville, announced her intent to run for Republican nomination in North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District. “Right now, I don’t think people in the district have a voice that represents them in Washington,” Curran said. “To be a voice for people you have to listen to them.”

Curran announces she'll challenge Foxx in GOP congressional primary - Winston-Salem Journal: Elections

Curran announces she'll challenge Foxx in GOP congressional primary - Winston-Salem Journal: Elections

First part of the article:

U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, elected to the 5th Congressional District seat in 2004 after tight Republican primary and runoff elections, faces another challenge within her party if she wants to keep her seat.
Pattie Curran, a Kernersville resident, announced Tuesday that she will be running for the seat.
Curran may not have the name recognition that Foxx has accumulated over the past decade as a member of Congress, but she is known in local GOP circles.
Curran has been a staunch opponent of the Affordable Care Act, and she's "the mom who took on Kay Hagan," Curran said, referring to a video-recorded confrontation with Hagan, the Democratic U.S. senator who lost her seat in the 2014 election.
The video went viral, and people in the 5th District who might vote in a GOP primary may recognize Curran from that footage. Finish reading at this link.

Campaign Press Release

Here is a link to the press release announcing my candidacy. It is going to be a great year! Looking forward to seeing all of the many blessings God has in store for Team We The People this coming year.

Daily Haymaker: NC-05: Yes, Virginia. You DO have a primary opponent.

The Daily Haymaker was the first news media outlet to break the news about my campaign. You can read the full article here. NC-05: Yes, Virginia. You DO have a primary opponent. Virginia Foxx has enjoyed life in Washington. She’s risen through the ranks to be a trusted adviser to House speaker John Boehner. Like fellow GOPer Renee Ellmers, Foxx has sided with the make-no-waves establishment against the wishes of folks back home begging for a serious fight against Barry Obama, amnesty for illegal aliens, and ObamaCare. Well, one Forsyth County housewife, mother, and Army veteran has decided to make Foxx 112_foxx_nc05answer for decisions like that. Continue reading.
